SaaS · Energy App
Blog posts that drew 140,000+ page views in a year, all of it organic.
OhmConnect wanted customers who cared about what the app does. Nine blog posts, written for the people the app helps, brought them in.
The problem
OhmConnect is a software company that helps homes use less energy. The app sends a notification during peak periods reminding users to turn off their lights, and users who do get rewarded for saving energy.
The company’s mission is to improve the lives of people and the health of the planet by reimagining the way we use energy. In 2018 they set out to build a content strategy that reached people who shared that mission.
The approach
The content focused on practical, useful information for the audience. Because the app offers rewards and savings to homeowners, that became the focal point of everything ordered.
OhmConnect ordered nine blog posts, from detailed how-to articles to long-form listicles. Each one was packed with easy ideas for homeowners to save money or earn money online.
What I wrote
Nine articles, two of which carried most of the results. Both are still live on OhmConnect’s site:
The results
OhmConnect’s then Digital Strategist and Editor-in-Chief, Katie Overmonds, shared how the posts performed:
- “21 apps that pay real money to your PayPal” became the highest viewed post on their blog, with more than 110,000 page views in a year.
- “44 apps that give you free stuff” brought in about 30,000 page views.
- Both articles drove 100% organic traffic. Nothing was spent promoting either post, and neither was pushed to their social media community.

Why did they work? Good copywriting that follows SEO best practices is one of a few factors that shape a content strategy’s outcome. Here the content delivered value that improved readers’ lives while making a positive impact at home and in the world. That is what attracted mission-aligned customers, and the leads converted into signups for the product.

OhmConnect’s Testimonial
“He was able to quickly and affordably write a variety of blog posts that not only increased traffic … but also brought in mission-aligned customers and leads!”
I hired Jef to help my company with some online content writing, and I am thrilled that I did! He was able to quickly and affordably write a variety of blog posts that not only increased traffic to our website significantly but also brought in mission-aligned customers and leads that converted into signups for our product. I would be happy to recommend his services to others.
